This ghat runs through the Anamalai Tiger Reserve's buffer, and the wildlife is not decorative: Nilgiri tahr graze the rocks near the upper bends, gaur stand in the tea like statues, elephants cross at dawn and dusk, and the endangered lion-tailed macaque — this forest is one of its last strongholds — appears near the canopy sections. Slow down, never feed anything, and give every animal the road. It is their ghat; we are just driving on it.

Monkey Falls, right at the base of the ghat, is a proper leg-stretch and a refreshing dip on the way up (mornings are quietest). On the plateau, drive out to the Nallamudi Viewpoint — a short estate walk ends at a railing with a sheer wall of Anamalai peaks across the valley, including views toward the Grass Hills. The Sholayar Dam, one of the highest in the region, anchors the far side of the plateau, and the drive to it through Lower Sholayar's tea and forest is a destination in itself.

Stop at an estate tea stall, buy dust-fresh tea from the source, and watch pluckers work slopes that look too steep to stand on.
